“The Further End-Times Adventures Of Verb McCracken,” “The Sardines,” Chapter 5d, Part 4 “Let’s Get Tall”

They got locked up.  I told the good lieutenant about my interviews and he agreed.  Their alibis didn’t hold up.  That along with the sighting by the Smyrnan youth group was enough to put them away.  I couldn’t explain to Lieutenant Lapsarian that they’d be getting perfect justice in just a few years when the Millennium begins.

I had a sermon to preach the next day.  It was not going to be pretty   I’d have to listen to all those squeaky voices and they’re not going to want to hear what I say.

The elder introduced me the next day.

“Here’s the guy that got Chuy and Pedo locked up.”  Then he listed my other credentials.  I don’t think I’ve heard a welcome like that.  But I’ve been called so . . .

“Good morning, everyone!”

“Yeah, for you maybe,” I heard a voice from the crowd.  I just ignored it.

“The Lord has given me a word for you,” I started.

“Better be a good one,” someone cried.

“Every word from the Lord is perfect.1*  The word I have from the Lord is that you have a good reputation but not in His eyes.  He says your rep is that you’re alive but He considers you dead.”

“This reminds me of a period of history long ago.  In fact, a lot of historians thought it was the peak period for the church.  I didn’t think it really was a good time for the church.  There was some prominent writers during this time who got a lot of respect but they didn’t really say anything that wasn’t already in the Bible.  Anyone who could read or hear the Scriptures could hear a lot about the Holy Spirit.  But they were dry and intellectual.  They even had the Bible printed in many languages.  That’s good but my understanding that if you just do whatever you think is good is not good enough.  You can’t do anything apart from the Lord. 2*  Whatever you do has to be done in the Spirit.”3*

God says that you have some good deeds but they haven’t been completed.***  That doesn’t sound too good to me.  I’m guessing most of you hadn’t been saved yet.  I’m basing that on the fact that you’re here.  If you had the Spirit, you would have been airlifted in the Rapture.  That’s also why a lot of you hated Grace.  She was filled with the Spirit.  If you’re not saved, you don’t have the Spirit inside of you.4*  And then you wouldn’t usually like those who do have the Spirit.”

“It only stands to reason that the Lord would say that your deeds are not complete.  They’re not complete because you haven’t served the Lord in the power of His Spirit.”5*

“You know He always has a word of exhortation.  And here is what He says to you, ‘Wake up, and strengthen the things that remain, which were about to die.’  He’s telling you to WAKE UP!!!”6*

“He doesn’t have much good to say about this church here in Sardis.  Of course, you murdered Grace, figuratively and literally.  If you quench the Spirit, you have murdered Grace.”7*

“The Lord is telling you to repent.  I know a lot of you think that means that you have to get emotional about the Lord and ‘feel’ bad for your sin.  It doesn’t mean that.  It literally means that you have to change your mind.8*  There is nothing that you can add to what Jesus did for you.  He did it all.  Your feelings aren’t going to change anything.  Changing your mind will change things.  Your mind steers your actions and your will.  That is what God wants you to do.

“Obviously, in the times in which we are living, there are a lot of people that need the Lord.  You can’t reach them on your own.  You have to rely on the power of the Holy Spirit.  He will help you reach the lost in this age.  And there are a lot of them!”

Suddenly, I heard an extremely large crash.

Ending No. 1:

There was also a “phoosh!”  I think I saw a quick fire and then I looked around and everyone was gone!  They weren’t just small.  They were non-existent!  I guess God took them in judgment.  He had told them to repent.  I explained clearly what they had to do it.  They didn’t want to do it.

The floor was scorched.  That was all that was left of them.  They had literally and figuratively killed off Grace.

I remembered that God was a “consuming fire.”9*

Ending No. 2:

Suddenly, I heard an extremely large crash.  There was also a “phoosh!”  I think I saw a quick fire and then I looked around and everyone was large!  They weren’t small any more.  They were tall and I could hear them talking!  They were reciting the Roman Road 10* to each other.  They all had deep voices.  Even the women and children were altos or tenors!  Boy, the choir is going to sound weird with no sopranos!  I guess God showed them Grace.  She was back in the congregation, not literally but metaphorically!

God had told them to repent.  I explained clearly what they had to do.  I guess they had changed their minds.  They didn’t even say “good-bye” to me.  They rushed out and started telling everyone about God’s love for them and how to trust Christ!

(To be continued . . . .)

1*  Ps. 12:6,   “The words of the LORD are pure words; As silver tried in a furnace on the earth, refined seven times.  James 1:17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. ”

2* Rev. 3:1, “ . . . ‘I know your deeds, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead.”

3*  John 15:5, “I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.”

4*  Rom. 8:9   However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him.

5* 1 Cor. 2:14   But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.  Gal. 3:3 Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?

6*  Rev. 3:2  ‘Wake up, and strengthen the things that remain, which were about to die; for I have not found your deeds completed in the sight of My God.

7*  1 Th. 5:19 Do not quench the Spirit

8*  Rev. 3:3. “‘So remember what you have received and heard; and keep [it], and repent.”  The Greek word for “repent” is “metanoia.”  “Meta” means “change” and “noia” means “mind.”  So literally, “repent” means a change of mind, go in a new direction.
