Psalm 40:11-17 Waiting For Godot, Part 2 A Lament Psalm by David
Proverbs 22:2-4 Commonality
Have you noticed that no body that has a body doesn’t die? I know that was a little awkward. I could put it this way, everybody dies . . . eventually (cf. Heb. 9:27). Jesus came back after He died. Lazarus came back but later died. OK, there was Enoch (Gen. 5:24) and Elijah (2 Kings 2:12). But I think they might come back and be the two witnesses in Revelation 11:3-8. Chances are against that you are one of them anyway. So you will probably end up dying. A famous TV father once said to his son, “I brought you into this world and I’ll take you out” (v. 2). God will make sure that everyone who is born will one day die and face judgment (either the GWT or Bema judgment).
You’ve probably heard the definition of insanity: “Insanity is repeating the same mistakes and expecting different results.” See verse 3.
How many times have I mentioned that disciples have to be humble (v. 4a)? Humility ends up resulting in being a worshipper of Jesus (v. 4b). True pleasure in life is a reward for that (v. 4c). So does it result in a good reputation (v. 4d, cf. Prov. 22:1, A Good Rep, aka yesterday’s reading). So is the purpose of life (v. 4e, cf. John 17:3; 1 John 5:11-12).
