Choose Life – “Hope In Temptation” – An Uplifting Verse from the OYB reading of the day – August 15

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 10:13   NASB    “Hope In Temptation”

“No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.”  1 Corinthians 10:13

If you are a new Christian or even just new to studying about your faith, there are a handful of verses that you absolutely must know.  This is one of them!

This verse says that there is not a single temptation that we can encounter that God won’t help us get through.  He will provide a “way of escape.”  I know sometimes my feelings have been overwhelming and I don’t think I can resist but this verse remains true.  God will help us!  Trust Him for this promise.  It is a long verse but for some reason I was attracted to it and it was the first one I ever memorized!

Since I’ve baited you, here are some more basics for living the Christian life (there are others that are eminently important for basic doctrines like original sin, salvation, sanctification, the church, angels, the Trinity, Christ, the Bible and end times — read this blog through the course of the year and they all should be covered or read my book on theology if it ever gets published!).

Forgiveness of sin:

I John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness”

Assurance of Salvation:

2)  1 John 5:13  “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.”

James 1:5   “But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”

Answered Prayer:

Mark 11:24  “Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted you.”

Strength to get through anything:

Is. 41:10  “‘Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’”

Phil. 4:13  “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”

Phil. 4: 19   “And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”

Mt. 6: 33 “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

Matt. 6:34    “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

1 Pet. 5:7   “casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.”  (also Ps. 55:22, “Cast your burden upon the LORD and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.”)

God’s Love, Personalized for you:

Zeph. 3:17  “The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.” NIV

Jer. 29:11  “‘For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.”

Well, those should get you going.  Do you have any favorite promises?  Have you committed them to memory?

If you have, you will find that you are choosing life (Dt. 30: 19)!

Fun Application:
